I. Am. Vegan.
I am a wife, a daughter, a niece, a cousin, an aunt, a friend. I graduated college. I played sports in high school. I love art and music. I love the ocean and the beach. I love being outdoors and enjoying nature. Cooking and photography are my hobbies. There is a lot about me, a lot about me that is similar to you, perhaps.

I am also vegan.

These three words - I. Am. Vegan. - are the most difficult for some to understand. I do not just come out and say "hey, nice to meet you, I am vegan" since, strangely, talking about food is a lot like talking about religion or politics. People take food very seriously - as do I.

But for some reason, the word "vegan" brings so much confusion and sometimes people become standoffish. Vegans are just people who do not believe in killing another animal for food (or textiles, products, etc.), we also know the food industry is far beyond broken. But in order to end factory farming, we must create a much better food system.

I am vegan. And I can confirm that, yes, I get plenty of protein. Yes, I am very healthy. Yes, I can eat at restaurants. No, I do not eat fish. No, I do not eat eggs. No, I do not consume any dairy products. Yes, I eat - a lot of foods!

The one comment that struck me the most was when someone said to me "oh, you're vegan? your food choices are very limited. I don't know how you do it." On the contrary. I eat more food now than I did when I was not vegan. The person who said this to me was only focused on animal based products. As a vegan there are hundreds of options beyond animals. Just in the bean family there are around 400 types to choose from! Yes, 400. And they all have protein!

If you think about it, eating an animal food product isn't about what the product tastes like, it is about texture and the marinade or spice rub on the food. If you boil a chicken breast you are going to have something that is well, not very tasty at all. Cooking is all about flavor and texture while enhancing the eating experience and you can accomplish this and so much more by omitting animals from your food.
In short - I am so happy that you have stumbled upon this page and I hope that the recipes and information can be helpful for you - no matter where you are on your journey - WELCOME!
